- Do I need to remove my existing insulation?
No due to the breathability of Isover heatshield, it can be laid over existing insulation regardless of its condition or composition.
- Is it easy to install?
Yes simply roll it out over existing insulation. For best results cross layer it; that is lay it perpendicular to the existing insulation layer.
- What U-Value will heatshield achieve?
It depends on the exisiting insulation you have and other factors but typically topping up with Heatshield will give you a u-value of 0.16W/M2k (assuming you have existing layer of 100mm mineral wool already). 2 layers of heatshield will give you a U-Value of 0.13W/M2k.
- Where can heatshield be used?
Heatshield can be used on attic floors, as a top up layer or as a complete attic floor system (double layered, between the joists and above) if you have no insulation it can also be used between rafters. For any other insulation requirements you have, please contact us.
- what are the benefits of the gridlines?
Isover heatshield features 100mm gridlines which assist with accurate installation and helps avoid wastage in certain cases you you have to cut the insulation eg if you are using it between your timber rafters or if you are friction fitting it between the joists.
- What about electric cables?
Heatshield is A1 fire rated, and is non-combustable material. To avoid the risk of overheating, electrical cables should be laid above the insulation or be adequately rated to ensure they do not overheat. Recessed fittings should have adequate ventilation or other means to prevent overheating. If unsure please seek professional advice
- Are there additional considerations I need to take into account?
Yes, water tanks and pipes should be insulated separately but do not insulate underneath the cold water tank. Maintain a minimum of 50mm airspace between insulation and roofing felt at eaves to ensure adequate ventilation.
- What are the handling guidelines?
Heatshield features a soft tissue facing, meaning its easy to handle and soft to touch, combined with its higher density helps to reduce the amount of dust generated, however, as with all insulation materials we recommend wearing the appropriate safety equipment, gloves, face mask. See instructions on packaging.
